Green Parakeets of Ealing.
Client: Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, UK.
The green parakeet installation was the brainchild of Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre's then Marketing Manager, Lucy Thomas. After months of discussions, Studio Soufflé was given creative licence to create these 3 5m span giant parakeets as part of the centres summer installation; 'Growing Wilder' where the town square was turned into a tropical paradise. The real-life generally consist of greens, greys and browns but these babies were given a different colour palette each on their wings to give them individual personalities.
Feral parakeets in Great Britain an introduced species. The population consists of rose-ringed parakeets (Psittacula krameri), a non-migratory species of bird that is native to Africa and the Indian Subcontinent. The origins of these birds are subject to speculation, but here are a few interesting theories :)
parakeets escaped from damaged aviaries during the Great Storm of 1987.
Romantic theories associated with film studios and rock stars are considered fanciful, however, and most ornithologists believe that the original birds probably escaped from aviaries before 1971.
